WELCOME
Our family has been living at Killruddery since 1618 and today we are very happy that three generations live here. Living heritage on Dublin’s doorstep!
Killruddery is a true celebration of the great outdoors and an authentic, bio-diverse space. We continue to meet long-standing Members who enjoy Killruddery as their own back garden; it is our delight to build a strong community here who are as passionate about conserving this estate as we are. We produce chemical-free vegetables, fruit, cut-flowers and free-range meats for our Farm Shop and all our ‘garden-to-plate’ menus for The Grain Store, Dairy Yard Coffee Shop, Killruddery Wood-Fired Pizza and Tea Room.
Over the past decade, we have responded to the challenge of preserving the House and Gardens by transforming Killruddery into a popular visitor attraction on Ireland’s Ancient East, a working farm and a private hire venue for weddings and corporate events. However, at the heart of this enterprise, we wish to protect Killruddery’s soul and unique character as our special family home.
You are most welcome. We hope you will enjoy your visit and return again and again.
Earl and Countess of Meath, Lord and Lady Ardee and the Brabazon family.

SOLD OUT - KILLRUDDERY CUT FLOWERS PRESENTS: PLAN + PROPAGATE YOUR OWN ECOLOGICALLY RICH, DELICIOUS + BOUNTIFUL VEGETABLE + FLOWER GARDEN WITH ALYS FOWLER
SUNDAY 26TH MARCH
ADULT: €165
ADULT MEMBER: €148.50
TIME: 10.00 - 16.00
PLACE: THE GARDEN ROOM + GRAIN STORE
EVENT DESCRIPTION
We invite you to join us on Sunday, 26th March to learn how to plan and propagate your own ecologically-rich and sustainable edible garden with renowned food grower, Alys Fowler (@alysf), known for her previous presenting role on BBC Gardener’s World and gardening column in The Guardian Weekend Magazine.
During this workshop we will look at how to grow using polyculture methods, the art of growing a variety of different plants together, resulting in an intricate garden design that celebrates biodiversity as well as deliciousness. Alys’ approach is to create a permanent framework of trees, climbers, shrubs and perennials which will grow alongside a healthy harvest of vegetables, that you can rely upon year on year to fill a weekly vase of flowers.
To begin, Alys will guide you through the principles of polyculture growing focusing on suitable flowers that are either edible or can be used medicinally and still work as cut flowers. This will include looking at annual, perennial and bulb flowers and how to incorporate them to gain the maximum benefit for the wider ecology.
In the afternoon Alys will discuss soil health and fertility, which is the cornerstone of this form of gardening. This will include looking at mulches, composts and microbial-rich feeds to benefit all of the garden, foliar feeds for cut flower production and garden ferments to increase certain key nutrients required for good flowers and fruit formation. From here participants will learn about propagation and plant health, including making natural hormone solutions to improve rooting in cuttings and seedlings. Finally, we will look at various, simple solutions for plant supports to maximise both vegetable growing, cut flower production and create ecological niches to improve insect life.
With limited slots available to ensure the workshop remains intimate and each individual receives plenty of guidance throughout the day, all materials for this workshop are provided, and everyone will leave the workshop with Alys’ choice varieties of seed packs, along with an understanding of how to apply the knowledge gained during this workshop, in your own garden. You are encouraged to bring along plans and pictures of your own garden to help achieve this.
This workshop is hosted by Lady Fionnuala Aston-Ardee in our light filled Garden Room, with a welcome tea/coffee on arrival, a two-course lunch in The Grain Store with a menu designed by Head Chef Niall O’Sullivan using produce from our Walled Gardens, and a glass of bubbles or mocktail to toast to a beautiful day.

EVENT DESCRIPTION
We invite you to don your Easter bonnet, dress in your finest Easter inspired clothing, and join us at Killruddery this Easter weekend for two days of eggs-cellent family fun in partnership, once more, with the DSPCA.
Throughout this weekend, children big and small will be given the opportunity to eggs-plore the beautiful grounds of Killruddery with a very special Easter themed treasure trail and family event.
There will be a raffle where you can purchase tickets in The Orangery (winners will be announced at a later date), Spring Stories in The Orangery, a goodie bag (per family), baby animals to visit, traditional garden games and much more! With a card which will be stamped at each location, look forward to eggs-cellent lawn games, questions and clues on our Easter treasure trail.
The funds raised from this event will go directly to support the DSPCA's cause to purchase a blood diagnostic machine for the DSPCA Veterinary Department, significantly decreasing the amount of time to receive blood test results from 3-6 days, to 12 minutes - a truly life saving change for the animals that arrive to the shelter and increasing productivity for the vet team.
ABOUT THE DSPCA:
The DSPCA was established over 180 years ago in 1840. Over the years the DSPCA has grown to be the leading animal welfare charity in Ireland, existing uniquely to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome sick, injured and cruelly treated animals - both domestic and wild. The DSPCA is supported and enhanced by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers who help save lives everyday.
The DSPCA is delighted to be hosting their second annual Easter Event with Killruddery. The work that the DSPCA does in the community is very important and so this event will allow the charity and volunteers to meet new people and raise awareness of the many programmes and initiatives that the DSPCA does to help animals and people.
