FILMING LOCATION

LOCATED ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF DUBLIN, KILLRUDDERY HAS BEEN USED AS A SHOOTING LOCATION FOR BOTH MOVIES AND TV SERIES.

From pictures like My Left Foot, Far & Away, Excalibur, The Tudors, Angela’s Ashes, Camelot, Becoming Jane, Ella Enchanted, The Count of Monte Cristo, The Winx Saga and The Turning - Killruddery is one of Leinster's hidden treasures: a privately owned family estate in the foothills of the Wicklow mountains.

Dating from 1618, the scenic estate is home to the Brabazon family as well as a visitor attraction in Ireland’s Ancient East – with formal gardens and parkland, daily house tours, a Tea Room, Farm Shop and a diverse Event Programme.

A SPECTACULAR OLD ESTATE IN IRELAND

The house is a south facing multi-bay mansion, originally dating from the 17th Century. It was dramatically altered by the 10th Earl of Meath in the 1820s, who created a large gothic mansion with a massive central hall in which they installed a grand organ. The approach was redirected to a north-facing drive and the road from Dublin to Wicklow was diverted to the other side of the Great Rock. The interiors were richly furnished in the Regency style of the day.

The interior boasts elaborate chimney pieces by Giacinto Micali, crimson silk damask from Spitalfields, stained glass by John Milner, a domed ceiling by Henry Popje and the wonderful drawing room ceiling by Simon Gilligan, who worked for Popje. The clock tower in the forecourt houses a water clock designed and constructed by Normand, the 13th Earl of Meath.

RECENT PRODUCTIONS

One of the most recent productions filmed at Killruddery was Floria Sigismondi's supernatural horror film, The Turning, produced by Hollywood legend Steven Spielberg in 2019 (release 2020). The Turning is a modern take on Henry James' novella, The Turn of the Screw.
