ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP

Established in 2019 by Fionnuala Brabazon - Killruddery Cut Flowers has been on a continuous learning journey, guided by skilled gardeners and florists. Today, we create floral arrangements for over 30 weddings each year and for all the spaces in which we welcome guests across the estate. Around 80% of our blooms are grown here in our walled garden, chemical-free, under the direction of Head Gardener Daragh Farren.

One of the key gardeners on this project is Annette Daly. Originally from Dublin, Annette joined the Killruddery gardening team in 2022. She studied Garden Design, Parks and Supervision, and Horticulture, and brings a background in fine art education, which informs her sensitivity to colour, texture and form. She works with a deep respect for biodiversity and the habitats each plant supports.

Annette tends the cut-flower borders in our walled garden, overseeing the full annual cycle: from sowing seed on site, nurturing young plants in our tunnels and pitshouse, to planting out in late spring and harvesting through the season. Seed choices are informed by the Killruddery Cut Flowers florists’ colour palettes, alongside what thrives best in our soil and microclimate. We work with the plants’ natural rhythms to create abundance for weddings, banquets, table arrangements and workshops.

In this full-day workshop, Annette will guide participants through the year-round cycle of cut-flower growing, highlight reliable and rewarding varieties, and lead a tour of the cut-flower beds and nursery in their early spring state. You’ll be given a start in creating your own cut-flower bed plan, designed to provide flowers for your home throughout the year. There will be seeds to sow on the day and to take home.

Towards the end of the workshop, Lead Florist Hanka Miziova will demonstrate hedgerow and early-spring floral arranging, showing how to work creatively at a time when summer blooms are not yet available.

You will leave with practical knowledge, clear guidance, inspiration, and seeds to begin or deepen your own cut-flower practice.

This is a full-day workshop. We will welcome you with warming drinks and share a long-table lunch in the Grain Store, cooked by Head Chef Niall O’Sullivan and team. Please dress for gardening and for the weather.
