In Winter, when we talk of loss

    Might small hope take seed”

This winter Killruddery House and Irish Hospice Foundation (IHF) invite you to walk, talk, move and explore what might be created from loss.

In 2016 Irish Hospice Foundation carried out a national survey where people living in Ireland said they’d like more places to talk about death and bereavement. This second pandemic winter Killruddery House wants to offer this sanctuary.

While the gardens are closed to the public we invite a small group to take a journey of discovery. It is an offer to those who are affected by loss, be it large or small, a disruption or a bereavement.

We hope you might join for all sessions, though you are very welcome to come and see if it’s for you. Or perhaps it’s something that you might bring a friend in need to?

This Killruddery House project is part of a larger nationwide IHF initiative, the Compassionate Culture Network supported by the Creative Ireland Programme – for details see the Arts pages at www.hospicefoundation.ie

Walks take place on Thursday morning’s, starting November 11th. Led by Andrea Scott of theatre company Floating World Productions. Free to take part in. Places are limited. Registration in advance is required. To register Killruddery.com/programme

Each session will start at under the eaves in Killruddery Horse Yard and involves walking, talking, moving and collaborating with the natural environment through creative exercises. There will be a mix of indoor and outdoor activities. Masks are required for indoors. Please wear weather appropriate clothing and footwear.

The project in Killruddery House is part of a larger nationwide IHF initiative, the Compassionate Culture Network supported by the Creative Ireland Programme whose aim is to use creative practice to establish opportunities for people to talk about loss.   For details see www.hospicefoundation.ie/ccn

Join us this Lá Bealtaine for a Natural Dye with Kathyrn Davey. Kathryn will guide you through the process of natural dyeing from undyed fibre to beautifully finished naturally dyed textiles. We will start with a stroll along our Cut Flower boarder and around the stunning gardens of Killruddery to gather plants to add to our dye pots. Kathryn will guide you through the process of preparing your fibres for dye through cleaning & mordanting (an ingredient added to ensure the dye binds to the fibre for long-lasting colour). We will then create numerous pots of natural dye from our foraged materials, learn how to extract the dye & dye natural fibres.
Kathryn will provide all the necessary materials along with a prepped and mordanted item for you to dye and take home. Participants will have the opportunity to dye various fibres in a wide range of colours & experiment with expanding their palette. Students will leave with their own natural dye swatch book from samples created during class & a finished naturally dyed piece. Everyone will leave with an understanding of this ancient practice & the skills necessary to create and apply colour to textiles. This workshop will enrich your appreciation of the natural world while opening your eyes to a world of colour that lies beneath the everyday plants of our life.
Coffee is served on arrival with prosecco and lunch at interval. (*dietary preferences observed.)
