Killruddery hosts a weekly series of ‘homegrown’ dining experiences. Head Chef Rafal Lorys prepares a decadent 3-course menu, showcasing Killruddery’s own seasonal, sun-kissed ingredients from our Walled Garden & Farm. With occasional pop-up guest chefs!

On the 24th of September we welcome Rootsdinners

Roots is a roaming food project established by partners Keith Coleman and Aisling Mc Hugh. After hosting a series of dinners in Fia, a café they co-managed a the time, the seed of what would eventually become Roots had been sown. Inspired by the wealth of produce this island has to offer, and the simple act of gathering people around the table to share a meal, Roots has grown into a unique dining experience. To date, the duo have hosted dinners in an array of interesting space; from The Fumbally Stables, to Hang Tough Gallery, and even in a Lawn Bowls Club. Roots has now found a home in Rossnaree House, in the heart of the Boyne Valley. The couple’s dream is to one day operate a small guesthouse with adjoining dining room and space to grow the food they serve.

Roots doesn’t start with a menu.

It starts with exploration. Seasonal insight. Foraging. Sometimes a dinner idea emerges from a conversation with friends. Sometimes with a local producer or a passionate chef. From this, we uncover stories that we develop into pop-up dinners. For us, Roots is as much about our journey as it is about the dinners we create. It’s a celebration of culture, heritage and native produce. It culminates into an experience that fulfils our everlasting curiosity to understand food, and what it means to share it in beautiful places with wonderful people.

A Habit of Usefulness: Lady Meath’s Philanthropic Career

Independent scholar and local historian Rosemary Raughter returns to Killruddery to delve into the causes and initiatives with which Lady Meath’s name is associated. These include the Ministering Children’s League, which aimed to instil ‘a habit of usefulness’ in the young; the Girls’ Friendly Society, whose first Irish meeting took place in Bray in 1877; and the Brabazon Employment Scheme, designed to provide ‘interesting occupation for those…forced to pass the weary hours idly’ in workshouses and similar institutions. Rosemary specialises in women’s history and her publications include Religious Women And Their History: Breaking The Silence (2005) and The Journal of Elizabeth Bennis, 1749 – 1779 (2007). She has also authored numerous articles on the role of women in philanthropy, religion, domestic life, and political activism in both academic and local history journals. Rosemary is currently chairperson of Greystones Archaeological & Historical Society.

“A space to connect and feel understood in conversation with the dancers. A calm in the storm.”
    -Laura Valentine

We are delighted to welcome Numinous Flux to Killruddery, a collective of contemporary artists based in Nashville, TN. Established in 2014 by Artistic Director and Choreographer, Laura Valentine, Numinous connects the human experience through expressive movement in performance and open community workshops and is dedicated to the exploration, education and expression of the art of contemporary dance. The group brings new show Breathe to Irish audiences, revealing the complexity of the struggle of mental health. The show aims to create a space to “hold your breath” in the midst of chaos, raising questions around the swift isolation that anxiety and depression brings, albeit such a widespread and shared human experience.

    Seasonal Halloween Fun!

Pick and carve a pumpkin from our patch in our annual fun day celebrating Ireland’s most ancient festival.

We are delighted to host a pick and carve pumpkin extravaganza this year for all ages to participate in an outdoor celebration of this ancient festival – a potion of pagan and Christian meanings, lore and legend! The earliest form was an end-of-summer festival, ‘Samhain’, often known as the Celtic New Year, to mark the beginning of the long winter nights. This weekend at Killruddery, we want to celebrate the light days of summer and dark nights of winter with our activity partners including Me And The Moon & The Cool Food School and host some fantastic seasonal workshops. Don’t miss our very special DIY Scarecrow Competition and the chance to unite with your family and get creative outside!
