EVENT DESCRIPTION

We invite you to join us to experience the ancient art of block printing on textiles with award-winning surface pattern designer and textile printer, Liz Walsh. During this workshop you will play around with Liz’s extensive Indian wood block collection, working with Ireland’s heritage fabric and water based textile dyes, learning how to block print and look for everyday items that can be used to print with in the future.

With limited slots available to ensure the workshop remains intimate and each individual receives plenty of guidance throughout the day, all materials for this workshop are provided, and everyone will leave the workshop having printed their own table runner, tea towel and bread storage bag – all from beautiful, sustainable Irish linen.

This workshop is hosted by Lady Fionnuala Aston-Ardee in our light filled Garden Room, with a welcome tea/coffee on arrival, a two-course lunch in The Grain Store with a menu designed by Head Chef Niall O’Sullivan using produce from our Walled Gardens, and a glass of bubbles or mocktail to toast to a beautiful day.

ABOUT LIZ WALSH

Liz Walsh is an award-winning surface pattern designer and textile printer. Ireland has a long history with Irish linen. It is no surprise that this heritage fabric is central to Liz’s practice. Its threads are woven through her own family lineage, with generations of the family’s women working in Dublin’s Linen Halls. Linen lends itself beautifully to surface print. Being a natural fibre, textile dyes are absorbed into the threads to create long lasting heirloom pieces.
