EVENT DESCRIPTION

Fionnuala and Anthony Brabazon, Lord and Lady Ardee are delighted to invite you to the performance of a third of an inch per second, presented by Floating World Productions. 

Taking place over three evenings in June, this performance is a culmination of a weekly discourse between Floating World Productions’ Director, Andrea Scott and twelve community performers (The Elders). Sure to be a wonderful production for all the senses, this production is supported by Killruddery, The Mill Theatre and the Arts Council of Ireland. 

The inspiration behind a third of an inch per second is the wonder of the mycelium network and the work of forest ecologist Suzanne Simard. The Elders explore the intimate entanglement between humans and trees and delve into what we could learn from how the forest works as a community, sending messages to each other, listening to each other, knowing that when they work together they thrive. The title of this show refers to the speed at which messages pass through the mycelium. Tree time is slow, humans are moving too fast to connect and notice what is going on around them. Floating Worlds hope this piece will encourage you to slow down, listen, and be in awe of the wonder of the natural world.

ABOUT FLOATING WORLD PRODUCTIONS

Floating World Productions provides a platform for emerging artists and theatrical diversity and was founded by theatre artist Andrea Scott to combine theatre, dance, film, visual art, music, interactive sound and visual elements. Floating World Productions work in both conventional theatrical spaces and unusual environments. 

What brings Floating World Productions’ diverse work together is the invitation to their audience to live in the moment with them. They strive to bring you into a space in which you will be transported by a story, a movement, a sound or a picture. Sometimes the space will reveal its own story, sometimes the performer is at the centre of that space. They believe that the theatre experience can be transformative in all of its forms.
